You Don't Know Me (Original Film Version) - Elvis Presley
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Written by: Cindy Walker/Eddy Arnold
Original Film Version from "Clambake" (1967)

Tabbed by: maguri
Tuning: Standard

This song had already been a #2 hit for Ray Charles in 1962. Elvis
recorded it twice in 1967. The first version (2:14) was made in
February as part of the soundtrack recordings for the movie "Clambake".
This recording is featured in the film, but for the release on the
albums mentioned below a different mix was used: In the movie the
instruments (piano, drums, bass, guitar) are very low and the orchestra
is put into the foreground. As far as I know, the movie version with
orchestra has not been released outside the movie. The album version,
on the other hand, does not have any orchestra at all, which, to me,
makes this mix less sentimental and much more intimate and touching.
Definitely recommended!

Another, slightly longer recording (2:29) of this song was made in
September 1967 and then used as the B-side of the single "Big Boss Man".
It is in a different key, too (in B as compared to Bb for the movie version)
and features some slightly different chords (mostly transitional chords)
To me, the shorter version from the film is superior, though.

February 1967 version (without orchestra) now available on:
"Command Performances - The Essential 60's Masters II [Disc 2]"
